Vibra Cubana:  ( Exotica meets Latin Jazz)

The ensemble varies from intimate Trio setting with Vibraphonist , Bass and drums to a full 6 piece ensemble.   This ensemble presents the music of both of these iconic vibraphonist, and performs original composition by Mr. Mackay.

Originaly formed 2012 and based in the nOrthwest USA.  founding members included bassist Christian Gonzalez,  and percussionist Tom Berich and Tico.  performing at a variety of local venues and festivals around Southern Oregon.  In 2015 Mackay relocated to Oahu, HI and shortly after arriving formed his first Hawaii lineup, included Pianist Tommy James ( duke ellingtion, roy ayers), Bassist Alika Lyman ( grand nephew of arthur lyman), percussionist Baba Sango, and drummer von Baron.  this lineup performed monthly at one of honolulu's  hottest jazz Venues " Medici's". 

Within the two years residence at Medici's the band also included, Pianist Ethan Capone, and the legendary percussionist Gerardo Velez. Mr. Mackay was also fortunate to have two quality videos recorded during this residence.   the ensemble also played regularly at Honolulu's most hideaway sunday jazz spots " Wards Rafter" and an occasional gig at Jazzminds in Honolulu, which featured a Quintet with bassist Jon Hawes ( mike love) and woodwind player Tim Tsyukama ( honolulu jazz quartet), which reflected a live recording. ( samples of this recording available via " listen in " on website)  Mr. Mackay has recently started a collaboration with Percussionist Augie Lopaka Colon Jr. Lopaka is the son of the famous Hawaiian exotica percussionist " Lopaka Colon " ( famed bird calls of Hawaii )
